On October 13th, 2023, as part of a series of lectures and networking activities with experts within the framework of the Training Course on Economics and International Economics for foreign language faculty members organized by the Faculty of International Economics at Foreign Trade University (FTU), the Faculty of International Economics, in collaboration with Campus 2 in Ho Chi Minh City, held a seminar titled “International Economic Knowledge with a focus on Digital Economy and the Practical Development in Vietnam.” The seminar attracted the attention of lecturers from various faculties and departments, ranging from foreign languages, economics, law, to science.

The seminar featured presentations by two speakers: Mr. Phan Duc Trung, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Blockchain Association and Chairman of Decom Holdings, and Mr. Tran Le Hung, Deputy Chairman of the Fintech Application Committee of the Vietnam Banks Association (VBA). The event was attended by Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Xuan Binh, Dean of the Faculty of International Economics, and Associate Professor Dr. Tran Quoc Trung, Deputy Director of FTU Campus 2 in Ho Chi Minh City.

In his opening remarks, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Quoc Trung, Deputy Director of FTU Campus 2 in Ho Chi Minh City, emphasized that training, capacity building, and professional development for staff and lecturers is always a key mission of FTU. This serves the teaching activities of lecturers and, more broadly, the application of blockchain knowledge in managing and addressing legal issues in the economy.

Representing the professional unit, Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Xuan Binh, Deanof the Faculty of International Economics, noted, “Knowledge of the digital economy and green economy is essential for all lecturers in the current context. This is also why the Faculty of International Economics has implemented training and professional development programs on the digital economy and green economy for lecturers, with the participation of leading economic experts. When discussing new economies, blockchain is an area and a technological infrastructure that cannot be overlooked at this time.”

The training program began with a presentation by Mr. Phan Duc Trung, Permanent Vice Chairman of the VBA, on “An Overview of the Blockchain Industry” and related legal issues. Important topics included defining digital assets, virtual assets, and their significance in developing the digital economy, the importance of the Anti-Money Laundering Law in the context of an industry without specific legal frameworks, and the call for the participation of economic and legal experts to help build a more complete digital economy.

Technical issues related to blockchain technology were summarized in two parts on “E-wallets” and “Components of Blockchain,” shared by Mr. Tran Le Hung, Deputy Chairman of the Fintech Application Committee of the VBA. Mr. Hung provided practical information on identifying types of e-wallets, comparing data storage and customer verification processes between Web2 and Web3 environments, and between traditional finance and decentralized finance. This helped lecturers from various disciplines better understand the technical aspects of the digital economy.

During the Q&A session, lecturers from FTU Campus 2 in Ho Chi Minh City expressed interest in the prospect of blockchain training right at the university. In response, the VBA speakers affirmed that it is entirely possible to establish student clubs on blockchain, managed by the university, encouraging the participation of various faculties. VBA experts can contribute as professional advisors, organizing seminars and training sessions for both students and lecturers.
